Wheel series

The term wheel series, including wheel show, called on the U.S. television broadcasting a format in which several different TV series run alternately broadcast at the same time and thus form a unit, often under a common name, the so-called umbrella title (derived from the engl. term for umbrella ). In the variant, not the different series are marketed as its own, but the overall format.

The best-known form of the wheel series NBC Mystery Movies were in the United States, where under this same title ran from 1971 different alternating TV series broadcast at the same time. In the first version were the McCloud, Columbo and McMillan & Wife. After the great success of the wheel series NBC Mystery under the umbrella title movie (including 14th place in the TV ratings 1971/2 ) various series were also marketed independently and known worldwide, so next Columbo eg Quincy.
