Whippany, New Jersey

Whippany, New Jersey belonging to one of 39 municipalities of the city administration Hanover in Morris County and covers 17.9 km ². The city is connected by the New York State Route 10 to Interstate 287 and is located approximately 30 line kilometers of Manhattan in New York City.

History

The name comes from Whippany Native Americans, the Indians. They called the place " Whippanong " which means " place where the willow tree grows " means. This name derives from the trees on the Whippany River. Whippany half a century has been mentioned before the creation of the Municipality of Morris County, and has hosted the very first church in the present Municipality of Morris County.

Economy and infrastructure

In 1927, first aired by technical developments of Western Electric in the U.S. television from Whippany to New York City.

At the same location, Alcatel-Lucent was operating as a successor largest employer in Whippany, however, the location in the fall of 2009 was largely closed. Only the Global Product Compliance Laboratory Alcatel- Lucent, including by The Electromagnetic Compatibility ( EMC) testing of data and telecommunications products, is preserved at this site. All other departments were relocated to Murray Hill (New Jersey).

What will happen to the buildings is currently unclear.

Culture

Whippany has a railway museum located directly on the New York State Route 10.
