Whiskey Ring

As a whiskey ring is referred to in the United States, a scandal that was uncovered in 1875. A criminal connection of members of parliament, politicians, whiskey burners and wholesalers led to taxpayers' money. The Whiskey Ring began its activities in 1871 in St. Louis, but was also organized in Chicago, Milwaukee, Cincinnati, New Orleans and Peoria.

Before you came to them on the ropes, could a group of Republican politicians, led by a federal judge in Washington, branch off several million dollars from spirits taxes. The illegal activities were based on an extensive bribery of tax collectors and merchants.

Treasury Benjamin H. Bristow broke the ring in 1875 using secret agents. At the trial in October of the same year in Jefferson City (Montana) 110 convictions were spoken and more than 3 million dollars of tax funds recovered.
