White coat hypertension
The term white-coat hypertension ( engl. white coat hypertension ) denotes blood pressure values , the consistent increase in the measurement in a doctor's office or clinic, with self and ambulatory measurements (eg blood pressure measurements over 24 hours) at other times, however, are normal. This is also called isolated clinical hypertension.
A problem in this context, if the patient is only classified on the basis of this individual measurements by the physician as hypertensive and treated with medication. In any case, long-term blood pressure measurement should be used to clarify individually excessive blood pressure values .
The opposite is " masked " hypertension patients (also called " Praxisnormotonie "). In these the doctor in silence a normal blood pressure is generally measured because the patient is in this situation, particularly safe and feels so relaxed. A stress test works here mostly unmasking and also in this situation, the long-term blood pressure measurement is to prove the drug of choice increased blood pressure values under everyday stresses.
