Whitestart

Glasses Warbler ( Myioborus melanocephalus )

Myioborus is a string of twelve kinds songbird genus of the family Warbler ( Parulidae ). Characteristic are the outer white tail feathers. In the English language, they are therefore also referred to White Start ( -start is an archaic word for tail).

The incorrect alternative name Redstart is probably due to the superficial similarity of the Schnäpperwaldsängers ( Setophaga ruticilla ) to the actual Redstarts, the Rotschwänzen (Phoenicurus ) in the family of flycatchers ( Muscicapidae ). Previously, the Rotbrust Warbler was ( Myioborus pictus), as more representative of the genus, placed in the genus Setophaga, which also bear the name Redstart. Robert Ridgway regarded the genus as the sister species of the genus Setophaga Myioborus.

Features

Most species reach a body length of 13.0 to 13.5 centimeters, with the exception of the red-breast - warbler, which reaches a body length of 15 centimeters. The top plumage is dark gray and gray to olive-gray, the underside plumage yellow to orange to red. The common feature of the species are the white outer tail feathers.
