Wierzbiny, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship

Wierzbiny (until 1938: Wiersbinnen; 1938-1945 cleats village ) is a village in the powiat Piski in the Polish Warmian -Masurian with about 200 inhabitants.

The place is a linear village and is situated on the southern shore of Lake Arys, about three kilometers southeast of the city Orzysz ( Arys to 1945 ).

History

Wiersbinnen lay in the northern part of the district of Johannesburg, in the southeastern part of East Prussia. Through the village led the national route 127 by Elk. In Arys station were sidings to the city of Johannesburg and the western neighboring county town Sensburg and to Rastenburg in the north.

The southern hinterland of Wiersbinnen part of the military training area Arys the already used the imperial army, the Reichswehr, the armed forces and today the Polish army. The economic use of the lakeside scenery consisted of fishing, peat extraction and forestry - ( state forest ).

Wiersbinnen led this name until 1938 and was then renamed into studs village. In a statistical overview of the places of the district of Olsztyn, district of Johannesburg place studs village in 1938 was listed with 631 inhabitants.

After the Second World War and the cession of the southern East Prussia to Poland, he received the name Wierzbiny.
