Wiesa, Upper Sorbian Brěznja, since its incorporation in 1973 a district of Kamenz. It is located in the southern area of the city on the Black Elster, in the district of Bautzen.

Transport links

Wiesa is affected by the state road 102 Kamenz- Bautzen and the road Kamenz- Bischofswerda crosses. The now set railroad Kamenz- Bischofswerda also crossed Wiesa and had a breakpoint at Wiesaer station. Since the demolition of a railway bridge between Wiesa and Kamenz this is no longer usable.

History

Wiesa was founded in 1238. Main employer of the residents was, as in many other rural communities, agriculture. Besides agriculture became established in the 19th century, several quarries, where the existing granite deposits were mined. 1974 Wiesa was incorporated in the neighboring town of Kamenz.

Form of settlement

Wiesa is a Waldhufendorf with Gelängeflurteil. The central axis of the village forms the Schwarze Elster. The parcels spread out in a southeasterly direction beneath the Heidelberg (Saxony) and in a northwesterly direction.
