Meanwhile, there is also competition playing styles and organized tournaments, as on 16 August 2010 in Berlin.

History

The ball used for the game was invented in 1953 by David N. Mullany of Fairfield (Connecticut), who wanted to give his 12 - year-old son the chance to throw balls with spin. The ball is as big as a baseball, but consists of about 3 mm thick plastic and is hollow. A hemisphere ( hemisphere) has eight rectangular holes; by this construction has the shooter rolls a wide range of possible trajectories. The Wiffle ball was the basis for the ball used in floorball

Also, the club is made of hard plastic and is hollow. It is usually 32 inches (about 813 mm) long, with a diameter of about 1 ¼ inch ( 32 mm ).

The game takes its name from the fact that Mullanys son and his friends called a strikeout as a " whiff ".

In the 1960s and 1970s the game became popular in the U.S. as a playground, backyard picnic and game; since 1980 also in an organized form of competition, with tournaments and leagues own. There is currently no unified rules.

Since the ball can not be beaten far, satisfy approximately two field players per team. A further simplification compared to the baseball is to define the strike zone by a fixed frame so that it is no longer needed referee.
