Wijdemeren

Wijdemeren ( listen? / I ) is a formed on 1 January 2002 municipality in the Dutch province of North Holland. It includes the former municipalities

  • Loosdrecht, with the villages Oud and Nieuw -Loosdrecht
  • 's- Graveland, with the villages of ' s- Graveland and Kortenhoef
  • Nederhorst den Berg, with the villages Nederhorst den Berg and Ankeveen.

Location and economic

The community is located west of Hilversum and southeast of Amsterdam. Main sources of income are agriculture and tourism.

Attractions

The community is very popular with nature and water sports. In Loosdrecht there are the lakes " Loosdrechtse plassen " where much is sailed in the summer there are many events for the tourists, including an evening gondola ride and some sailing regattas Even with Ankeveen there are lakes, the " Ankeveense plassen .";. These are largely not accessible bird sanctuary and for tourists. All these lakes this fen area have emerged in the 17th and 19th centuries by peat extraction.

In 's- Graveland, a row in the 17th and 18th century landscaped by rich Dutch country seats. Of these, " Tromp Burgh " that belonged to the Tromp family, and " Schaep de Burgh " where the Dutch conservation organization " Natuurmonumenten " ( natural monuments ) is established, the best known. The parks and forests of this country seats are beautifully situated in the transition zone between the sandy moraine soils of the region "Het Gooi " and the swampy, deep polder between Amsterdam and Utrecht. Thus, this area, although the forest patches are caused by human intervention, a high natural value.

In Loosdrecht is the blueprint built in 1911 as a medieval castle Sijpesteyn, which can be visited from time to time. It houses an interesting collection of paintings and porcelain from the local porcelain factory from the second half of the 18th century.

Nederhorst den Berg has an old castle, Nederhorst in the village. It was built in the 13th century, several times destroyed and completely renovated in the 17th century. The castle has been rebuilt after a major fire in 1971 as office and film studio again, so closed to tourists.

's- Graveland is a picturesque village, through the center of a channel flow. This also applies to Kortenhoef, where from 1870 painters have practiced their art.
