The Wil Castle is a castle in the municipality Schlosswil in the canton of Bern, Switzerland.

History

The reign of Wil originally belonged to the Barons of Wiler mentioned in 1146 in connection with the Zähringers. Later fragmented sovereign rights and building shares until 1514 Burkhard von Erlach united the parts back. In the 17th century the estate was in the possession of the family of this stream, from 1719 the Frisching family. With the downfall of the city and Republic of Berne 1798, the sovereign rights of the patricians went to the Canton of Bern. After 1800 the donjon was later used as a granary. 1812 bought by the State of Bern domain and taught here the seat of the administration of the newly created administrative district Konolfingen one. 2011, the castle was sold to the entrepreneur Matthias Steinmann under the cantonal administration reform.

Niklaus von Wattenwyl built after the fire of the castle in 1546 the castle again with the inclusion of the keep. In 1725 a wealthy French garden was created, which still terrace walls, road systems, a pond, a small alley and a tree roundabout on the west side, but especially the 500 -meter-long main avenue are ending with a tree hall obtained. The two garden pavilions are remains of former corner tower of the medieval city wall. 1780, the main facade of the Baroque style. A comprehensive restoration was carried out in the years 1936 and 1937.
