Wilbert Awdry

Wilbert Vere Awdry ( born June 15, 1911 † 21 March 1997 Stroud, Gloucestershire, England), also known as the Reverend W. Awdry, was a British clergyman, railway fan and author of children's books. Among his most famous works is The Railway Series, the literary presentation of the television series Thomas the Tank Engine.

Life

Wilbert Vere Awdry was born on June 15, 1911 at the parsonage of Ampfield. He had a younger brother and three half-siblings of the father. His father Rev Vere Awdry was vicar of Ampfield. His mother's name was Lucy Awdry. With six years Awdry moved to Box, within the village, he moved again to twice.
