Wilbur R. Franks

Wilbur Rounding Franks ( March 4, 1901 *, † August 16, 1986 ) was a Canadian scientist and physician and was known for the invention of the anti-g suit for fighter pilots and astronauts, during the Second World War.

He was born in Weston, Ontario and grew up there. He studied Medical Sciences at the University of Toronto. After graduation he studied further at the University and developed the first liquid-filled anti-G suit, which was water between two rubber layers.

Awards

Dr. Wilbur Rounding Franks was awarded the The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire: honored for his invention ( short Order of the British Empire ). This is a British Order of Merit, donated 1917 by King George V.. He received another award from the United States with the Legion of Merit. More prices he has received in the U.S., were the Theodore C. Lyster Award and Eric Lilencrantz Award.
