Wilen

Wilen is a municipality in the district of Münchwilen the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland.

Until 31 December 1997 was as Wilen Wilen bei Wil local church to Munizipalgemeinde Rickenbach bei Wil. By the beginning of 1998 Wilen was separated in the Thurgau municipality reform of Rickenbach bei Wil and converted to the municipality Wilen ( TG).

Geography

Wilen is located about 3 km south of Wil on the northeastern slope of the mountain Hummel. With a total area of 225 ha Wilen one of the smaller communities of the Hinterthurgau. Despite its proximity to more urban Wil Wilen is a rural village embossed.

History

The village was first mentioned in 1302 as a hamlet of the town Wil, then it was still called " wiile ". There is more reliable information from a log book of 1846. Those days, in Wilen 34 cattle owners, a total of 120 people. After 1900, there were about 600 people who lived in Wilen and lived by agriculture and embroidery. As of 1950, the construction of single-family homes rose sharply, the population increased to almost 1,000 people. In the following decades Wilen grew steadily. In 1998, the foundation of today's political community ( as previously Munizipalgemeinde Rickenbach- Wilen ).

It is not clear whether Wilen has been mentioned already in the 754 Henauer certificate. It is widely believed that there the neighboring town of Wil was meant, but it is not impossible that it could be either Wilen.

Traffic

Wilen benefited from its proximity to transport links Wil. The connection to the A1 in Wil be reached in 5 minutes. Since 1981, the bus Wil - Wilen, the train station in Wil can be reached in a few minutes. A transit traffic through the village does not exist. The main road of Sirnach according to Rickenbach, which skirts the village is the only corridor.

Culture, Education

The first school house in Wilen was built in 1833. The oldest school house used is the " Türmlischulhaus ". It was built in 1897. It owes its name to the small tower-like structure, which contains a small bell. Today, the nursery is housed in the building. The primary school together with gymnasium was built in 1954 and since then two times (1968 and 1989 ) expanded. In 1994, the secondary school center Aegelsee was opened in Wilen, which is attended by students from Wilen, Rickenbach and Busswil.

Churches

Wilen is one of the parishes of Wil. Since 2004 there Wilen but an ecumenical church and community center, which is funded and shared by both the Protestant and Catholic parish. It was created by a remodeling of the multipurpose building, which previously have been held Catholic services.
