Wilhelm Gueinzius

Wilhelm Gueinzius ( born March 15, 1813 in Trotha, † January 24, 1874 in Pietermaritzburg ) was a German pharmacist and naturalist. He worked and died in Natal.

He prepared a wide variety of plants and animals and collected ethnological interesting pieces. He sent the materials, among others, Eduard Friedrich Poeppig, founder of the Zoological Museum in Leipzig. This was also given in 1838 Gueinzius the impetus to go to South Africa. Other parts of his collections are now worldwide. After Gueinzius several species are named.
