Wilhelm Marstrand

Nicolai Vilhelm Marstrand, Wilhelm Marstrand Nicolai, ( born December 24, 1810 in Copenhagen, † March 25, 1873 ) was a Danish painter and draftsman.

Marstrand became a student at the Art Academy in his hometown and later moved - supported by his teachers - at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. From there, Marstrand, on a long study trip to Rome, where he studied the ancient masters.

The genre painting was a big focus in Marstrand work, and especially in the implementation of Ludvig Holberg's comedy material he proved next artistic skill and sense of humor.

1853 to 1857 and again from 1863 to 1873 Marstrand was entrusted with the management of the Academy of Arts.
