Wilhelm Olivier Leube

Wilhelm Olivier Leube from ( born September 14, 1842 in Ulm, † May 16, 1922 at Montfort Castle on Lake Constance ) was a German pathologist, internist and neurologist.

Leube, son of a physician of Ulm, studied from 1861 to 1865 Medicine in Tübingen ( with Felix Niemeyer ) and Zurich (with Wilhelm Griesinger ), then in 1866 in Berlin. Leube in 1866 received his doctorate. In 1867 he attended lectures in chemistry in Munich and worked from 1868 to 1872 as the first assistant to Hugo von Ziemssen at the medical clinic and professor at the University of Erlangen, where he habilitated in 1868 and was promoted to associate professor later.

In 1872 he was appointed to a tenured professorship of special pathology and therapy at the University of Jena, at the same time he was there, director of the medical clinic. In 1874 he moved to Erlangen, where he was 1883/84 Vice-Rector of the University. 1885 finally he became professor of pathology and therapy at the Julius -Maximilians -Universität Würzburg and director of the local medical clinic. 1895/96 Leube was rector of the University of Würzburg.

Leube earned special merits in the treatment of stomach and intestinal diseases with stomach tube and stomach pump. He also developed jointly with Isidor Rosenthal (1836-1915), the Leube - Rosenthalsche meat Solution as particularly gentle stomach foods. These were to beef that had been transformed by overheating and treatment in a soft mass with hydrochloric acid.

In Würzburg Leube also made outstanding services to pediatrics. He was head of the children's department of the Julius Hospital Würzburg, which from its predecessor Carl Gerhardt (1833-1902) had been saved from closure. Leube put the lectures and exercises in the field of pediatrics as an integral part of the semester plan of the University of Würzburg continuously advancing.

In 1902, Privy Councillor Wilhelm von Leube bought the Montfort Castle in Langenargen from the previous owner, Prince Frederick Charles of Hesse- Kassel- Rumpenheim.

Leubes daughter Wally married later commander of the Bavarian State Police Hans von Seißer.
