Willem- Alexander (born 27 April 1967 Utrecht Willem- Alexander Claus George Ferdinand ), Prince of Orange- Nassau, van Jonkheer Amsberg, since the April 30, 2013 King of the Netherlands.

Life

Willem- Alexander is the eldest son of Princess Beatrix, the former Queen of the Netherlands and Prince Claus von Amsberg. He grew up with his younger brothers Johan Friso and Constantijn to 1981 on Drakensteyn Castle in Baarn. When his mother became Queen Beatrix, the family moved into the palace Huis ten Bosch in The Hague. He was taught in public schools in Baarn and The Hague together with children of all social classes. He completed his education at Atlantic College, Llantwit Major in Wales, from which he graduated in 1985 with the International Baccalaureate.

After completing his military training Willem- Alexander studied at Leiden University from 1987 and put history in 1993 with a thesis on the response of the Netherlands to the French withdrawal from the integrated military command of NATO under Charles de Gaulle from his exams.

Activities and official duties as heir to the throne

After his studies he spent periods of training at Air Force and Army troops as well as numerous visits of the active officer, among others, in Bosnia, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Afghanistan. Marriage and Family

On 30 March 2001, the then Prince of Orange became engaged with Maxima Zorreguieta, an Argentine with Basque, Spanish and Italian roots.
