William Beatty (Pennsylvania)

William Beatty (* 1787 in Stewartstown, County Tyrone, Ireland, † April 12, 1851 in Butler, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1837 and 1841 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Beatty grew up in his native Northern Ireland. In 1807 he came to the United States, where he settled in the city Butler. During the British - American War of 1812 he served in the state militia. From 1823 to 1826 he was sheriff in Butler County. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1836 Beatty was the 23rd electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Samuel Harrison Smith on March 4, 1837. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1841 two legislative sessions. After his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Beatty was until 1842 a deputy in the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. After that, he was deputy sheriff in Butler County. He died on April 12, 1851 in Butler, where he was also buried.
