William Blease, Baron Blease

William John Blease, Baron Blease of Cromac JP ( * May 28, 1914, † 16 May 2008) was a British Labour Party politician.

Life

The son of William John Blease and Sarah Watts attended the " McClure Public Elementary School ", the " Technical College " in Belfast and was educated at the " National Council Labour Colleges " and the " Workers' Educational Association ." Blease worked from 1929 as a clerk and rose within the company to the branch manager ( 1938-1940 ) on. In 1940 he moved to Belfast Shipyard Shipyard, where he worked as a clerk until 1945. Then he was until 1959 he worked as a branch manager for a co-op cooperative in Belfast. In 1976 he was appointed Justice of Peace for Belfast. On June 21, 1978, he was raised in the City of Belfast for life peer with the title Baron Blease, of Cromac. The Queen's University of Belfast awarded him an honorary Doctor of Law (Doctor of Law ) and the New University of Ulster an honorary Doctor of Literature (Doctor of Literature ). Blease was a member of the British Institute of Management.

Policy

The active trade unionist Blease was elected to the Northern Ireland Committee of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions in 1959 and remained until 1975 delegate. From the same year, he also worked for the " Independent Broadcasting Authority " and held that post for four years from. Blease joined the Northern Ireland Labour Party. In 1953 he ran unsuccessfully in constituency Belfast Oldpark for the Parliament of Northern Ireland, and again in 1965 for the constituency of Belfast St. Anne's, also without success. From 1979 to 1983 he was opposition spokesman for Northern Ireland and Whip of the Labour Party. In 1985, Blease worked with Paddy Devlin together at the formation of the Labour Party of Northern Ireland and remained until the dissolution of the group in 1990 her authorized representative. He was recently on leave with a leave of absence. He died shortly before his 94th birthday.

Family

Lord Blease was married to Sarah Evelyn Caldwell since 1939. They had four children together, three sons and a daughter.
