William Carney (politician)

William Carney ( born July 1, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York) is an American politician. Between 1979 and 1987 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Carney was born during the Second World War in New York City and grew up there. He attended St. Catherine of Genoa School in Brooklyn, graduating in 1960 at the Delahanty High School in Queens. Then he visited 1960-1961 Florida State University in Tallahassee (Florida ). Thereafter he served 1961-1964 in the United States Army Medical Corps. As a representative he worked 1972-1976 for a heavy machinery company.

Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party. He represented Suffolk County between 1976 and 1979 in the New York State Legislature. In the congressional elections of 1978, Carney was the first electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Otis G. Pike January 4, 1979. He was re-elected three times in a row. Since he resigned in 1986 to run again, he retired after January 3, 1987 from the Congress.
