Life and work
Zeise was a professor of organic chemistry at the University of Copenhagen. He was known for the discovery of the first organometallic compound of Zeise's salt. Zeise recognized the correct chemical composition of Zeise's salt, but could not explain the structure. Zeise also discovered the xanthates in 1823.
Since 1824 he was a member of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences.
