William Compton, 1st Earl of Northampton

William Compton, 1st Earl of Northampton, KG († June 24, 1630 ) was a British peer.

William Compton was the son of Henry Compton, 1st Baron Compton, and Frances Hastings. He served as Lord Lieutenant of Warwickshire and Gloucestershire and the Council of Wales and the Marches. When his father's death in 1589 he inherited his title and seat in the House of Lords. In 1618 he was raised to the Earl of Northampton. He was a member of the Order of the Garter.

In 1599 he married Elizabeth Spencer and me had her two children. The daughter Anne married Ulick Burke, 1st Marquess of Clanricarde. His son, Spencer Compton, 2nd Earl of Northampton became a politician and military commander.
