William Craigie

Sir William Alexander Craigie (* August 13, 1867, † September 2, 1957 ) was a Scottish philologist and lexicographer.

Craigie studied at the University of St Andrews.

He was the third editor of the Oxford English Dictionary ( joint editor 1901-33 ). 1923 to 1936 he was the main editor of the Historical Dictionary of American English.

From 1916 to 1925 he was Rawlinson and Bosworth Professor of Anglo - Saxon at Oxford University.
