William Edwin Baldwin

William Edwin Baldwin, ( born July 28, 1827 in State, South Carolina, † February 19, 1864 in Alabama) was a brigadier general in the Confederate during the American Civil War.

Life

Baldwin was born in South Carolina, but his parents moved during his childhood in Mississippi. When he grew up, he took a book and grocery stores in Columbus. After having worked in the local militia for several years at the same time, he joined at the outbreak of the civil war in 1861 the army of the Confederate one where he was appointed as Colonel of the 17th Mississippi Infantry Regiment first to Pensacola, Florida, ordered, then to East Tennessee. In an attack on Fort Donelson Baldwin was captured by Union forces and imprisoned in Fort Warren.

After his release, he was appointed Brigadier General and was given command of a brigade of Mississippi and Tennessee Regiment in western Tennessee. After participating in several campaigns, he was captured again. After his release, he again was assigned to Mobile, but was on the way there, conditionally. Due to a broken stirrup, a riding accident and died from its effects on February 19, 1864
