William G. Whiteley

William Gustavus Whiteley ( born August 7, 1819 Newark, Delaware, † April 23, 1886 in Wilmington, Delaware ) was an American politician.

Whiteley attended Princeton College and studied law. After he had completed his studies in 1838 in Princeton, he was admitted to the legal profession in 1841 and practiced in Wilmington.

Whiteley was in 1856 elected as a Democrat to Congress and represented there, the state of Delaware in the U.S. House of Representatives on 4 March 1857 to 3 March 1861. 1860, he did not stand for reelection available.

From 1875 to 1878 Whiteley was mayor of the city of Wilmington. During this time he was next to even the Commission, which in 1877 was concerned with fisheries disputes between New Jersey and Delaware. From March 31 1884 to his death was Whiteley judge at the Superior Court of Delaware. He was buried in the Bridgeton Cemetery in Bridgeton, New Jersey.
