William Harrison Ainsworth

James William Harrison Ainsworth ( born February 4, 1805 in Manchester, † January 3, 1882 in Reigate ) was a British writer of historical novels.

Life

Ainsworth studied law in London. There he led for a time also a publisher. After a long trip on the Continent he returned to England and devoted himself entirely to writing. He edited Bentley's Miscellany in 1842, then founded Ainsworth's Magazine and bought 1845 The New Monthly Magazine. His novels are also available in German translation.
