William Henry Bartlett
William Henry Bartlett ( born March 26, 1809 in London, † November 13, 1854 on a ship from Malta ) was a British illustrator who is mainly known for his numerous steel engravings.
Life
Bartlett was a very prolific artist. He was a student of John Britton. At the age of 45, he died on a ship near Malta during the return journey from the Middle East.
Work
Bartlett's works often show social scenes with many people, most of which are separated by gender. In his pictures of nature, it shows the beauty and destructive power of nature at the same time. One of Bartlett's peculiarities was that he traveled for his landscape prints always even to the corresponding locations and not with sketches worked like most of his colleagues. He went to North America, the Middle East and European countries. For printing techniques he has developed a high degree of sensitivity and attention to detail in his works, especially as the most frequently used technique of steel engraving of him was still very young.
