William II, Duke of Jülich

William II of Jülich (* 1325, † December 13, 1393 ) was from 1361 to 1393 Duke of Jülich. He was the son of William of Jülich and his wife Jeanne of Avesnes -Holland ( † 1374 ), daughter of Count William III. of Holland.

His father made him already in 1343 as a co-regent. However, in the following years there were quarrels and the son kept his father from 1349 to 1351 captured.

The contention between Rainald III. of funds and his brother Edward he held to Edward, he also assisted in the Brabant feud. In the battle of Baesweiler 1371 he sat Wenceslas I, Duke of Brabant, caught.

He submitted to the grace of Emperor Charles IV in 1372 and secured his sons, the inheritance of the duchy of Guelders.

He was with Maria von Geldern, daughter of the Duke Rainald II, married. With her he had three children:

  • William of Jülich (1364-1402), since 1371/77 as William I Duke of funds and since 1393 when William III. Duke of Jülich.
  • Rainald von Jülich (* 1365, † 1423 ), from 1402 Rainald IV Duke of funds and as Rainald I Duke of Jülich.
