Life

After the death of his father William I in 1482 William inherited the Younger and his brother Friedrich, called the Troubled the duchy and thus bore the title of Duke of Brunswick- Lüneburg. The brothers practiced the territorial rule of common, but divided into a contract dated August 1, 1483, the rights of use ( so-called Mutschierung ). William first received the rights to use Braunschweig -Wolfenbüttel; by the deposition of his brother's 1484/85 fell Wilhelm II then to the rights of use for the Principality of Calenberg and the Principality of Göttingen.
