William Jerome McCormack

William Jerome McCormack ( born January 24, 1924 in New York City; † November 23, 2013 ) was Auxiliary Bishop of New York.

Life

William Jerome McCormack served from 1942 to 1945 in the United States Coast Guard. He then studied at St. Bonaventure University in Allegany and at Christ the King Seminary. He received on 21 February 1959, the ordination to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of New York. In 1961 he was appointed assistant director of The Society for the Propagation of the Faith. In 1962 he was appointed Pontifical Camerlengo, in 1965 an honorary prelates. He was a member until 1971, the National Council of The Society for the Propagation of the Faith.

He was from 1975 to 1976 director of the Department of Justice and Peace in the New York Archdiocese. From 1970 to 1980 he was Vice-Chancellor of the Archdiocese, as well as Secretary of the Board of Consultors. From 1975 to 1976 he was administrator of St. Joseph of the Holy Family Church in New York City near the United Nations Headquarters. From 1980 to 1985, as National Director of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith representatives of the Holy See.

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop on 23 December 1986 in New York and Titular Bishop of Nicives. The Pope personally consecrated him bishop on January 6, 1987; Co-consecrators were Eduardo Martínez Somalo, Substitute of the Secretariat of State, José Tomás Cardinal Sánchez, Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.

On 30 October 2001, Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation age-related.
