William Mundy (c. 1529 possibly in London, † 1591 ) was an English church musician and the father of musician John Mundy.

Life

William Mundy was in 1543 a member of the choir of Westminster Abbey. Later worked for various parishes until he finally in 1564 a member of the Chapel Royal was, where he remained until his death. After an erected by his grandson Stephen Mundy in the seventeenth century pedigree William Mundy was married to Mary Alcock and had with her two sons, the one the later composer John Mundy and secondly Stephen Mundy, who at the court of James I., and later with Charles I was active.

William Mundy wrote both English and Latin church music, including several services and anthems. In some of the works attributed to him is not clear whether they were written by him or by a son John Mundy.
