William Schreyer

William Allen Schreyer ( born January 13, 1928 in Williamsport (Pennsylvania ), † 22 January 2011) was an American businessman, CEO of Merrill Lynch & Co. and president of the Pennsylvania State University Board of Trustees.

The father of Schreyer worked at a local office for stock trading which Merrill Lynch bought later. During his time in high school, William Schreyer worked part-time in this company. He then went on to Pennsylvania State University, where he graduated in 1948. After college, he started as a junior executive trainee at Merrill Lynch. In 1963 he became head of the office in Trenton (New Jersey) and 1972 of the New York Regional Director. The following year he became head of the security department. After 1982 he became president of the company in 1985 and then Chairman and CEO.

Schreyer donated from the 1990s, several million dollars of his personal wealth from Pennsylvania State University and the Organization of Sigma Phi Epsilon.
