William Strang, 1st Baron Strang

William Strang, GCMG, KCB, MBE (* January 2, 1893, † May 27, 1978 ) was a British diplomat, advisor to the government in the 1930s to 1950s and from 1949 to 1953 head of the Foreign Ministry.

He attended at Palmer 's College, University College London and at the Sorbonne in Paris. In World War I he was a 1915 Worcestershire Regiment; end of the war he was a captain.

Since 1919, he belonged to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and has worked first in Belgrade in 1922 back in London, 1930 in Moscow, in 1933, he became head of the League of Nations in the ministry, in 1939 responsible for the European Department in 1943 with the rank of ambassador for the European Advisory Commission, 1945 Diplomatic Advisor to the Commander of the occupation forces in Germany, Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery, 1947 Head of Germany, and finally head of department. In 1953 he retired from the diplomatic service.

In 1954 he was knighted for Baron strand of Stonesfield and served as a member of the upper house various commissions.

In 1920 he had married Elsie Wynne Jones; the two had a daughter and a son Colin strand, 2nd Baron strand.
