William Thompson Sedgwick

William Thompson Sedgwick ( born December 29, 1855 in West Hartford, Connecticut; † January 25, 1921 in Boston, Massachusetts) was a founder of the modern health care system of the United States of America.

William T. Sedgwick completed his undergraduate studies at the Sheffield Scientific School of Yale University in 1877 and then earned his doctorate at Johns Hopkins University in 1881. He taught as a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from 1883 to 1921, first as associate Professor (1884), Professor (1891 ) and finally as Head of the Department of Biology and Public Health (Public Health).
