William Usery, Jr.

William " Willie" Julian Usery, Jr. ( born December 21, 1923 in Hardwick, Baldwin County, Georgia ) is a former American politician.

Biography

After visiting the Midway High School in Hardwick, he studied at the Georgia Military College in Milledgeville. During the Second World War he served from 1943 to 1946 his military service in the U.S. Naval Reserve. After he graduated from Mercer University in Macon.

Usery, who is also a member of the AFL -CIO, was as an assistant to the Minister of Labour ( Lab Assistant Secretary ) for relations with the trade unions in the administration of U.S. President Richard Nixon appointed in 1969 and belonged to this until 1973. Following this, he was Director of the Federal Service for mediation and conciliation ( Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service ), an independent government agency that mediates between industrial enterprises, companies and governments worldwide.

On February 10, 1976, President Gerald Ford appointed him as Minister of Labour in his cabinet, where he remained until the end of Ford's term of office on 20 January 1977.
