William von Wirén

William of Wirén (born 30 Augustjul / September 11 1894greg in Kärdla, Hiiumaa, .. † November 23, 1956 in Stockholm, Sweden) was an Estonian sailor.

At the Summer Olympics in Amsterdam in 1928 was of Wirén at the age of 33 years a member of the team of the Estonian Boots Tutti V, which won the bronze medal in the 6 meter class to Norway and Denmark. His associates were Nikolai Vekšin, Eberhard Vogdt and the two brothers Andrew and George Faehlmann.

From Wirén remained until the outbreak of the Second World War, a successful athlete. In 1933 and 1934 he won the gold medal at the European Championships in Ice sailing in the 20- meter class. In 1936 he won the bronze medal in the Monotype -XV class. 1939 emigrated from Wirén to Germany, from 1950 he lived in Sweden.
