William Waynflete

William Waynflete (* around 1395, † 1486 ) was an English bishop and Lord Chancellor.

Life

1429 he took over the management of Winchester College, and in 1442 the Eton. In 1447 he became Bishop of Winchester. A year later he founded in Oxford Magdalen College, which became the most important liberal arts institution of the university. 1450 commissioned him the crown with the suppression of the Cade Rebellion, and in 1456 he became Lord Chancellor of England. In 1460 he had to resign from that office.
