William Wharton (author)

William Wharton ( born November 7, 1925 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, † October 29, 2008 in Encinitas, California; actually Albert William You Aime ) was an American author. He became internationally known with his first novel Birdy, which was also filmed successfully.

Only when Wharton was already 52 years old, his first novel Birdy appeared. Until then, he worked mostly as a painter. In German, among others, "Dad - Father " was published (1990 ), " Franky - the fox " (1992), "The Night of the Bulge " (1988), "The Last Lovers of Paris" ( 1994). His work was heavily influenced by autobiographical elements, in particular through his time as a soldier in World War II.
