William Willcocks

Sir William Willcocks ( born September 27, 1852 in India, † July 28, 1932 in Cairo ) was a British civil engineer. He is best known as the builder of the first Aswan Dam.

He completed his degree in civil engineering in 1872 at the Thomason College, Roorkee and worked first for British Rail India. From 1883 on, he worked as General Manager for Storage tanks for the Egyptian Ministry of Public Works. In this task he planned 1896 construction of the first Aswan Staudams and directed the construction in 1898 to 1902.
