Williams F121
The Williams F121 ( manufacturer's designation: WR36 -1 ) was a turbofan engine that has been developed for the AGM -136 Tacit Rainbow cruise missiles.
Development
The F121 was developed in the early 1980s for the AGM -136 Tacit Rainbow and has some rare design features. It was intended only for the use of cruise missiles and accordingly has a high cost reduction, with correspondingly short life, designed. Nevertheless, the F121 for a cruise missile engine had a relatively long life of three hours ( the AGM -136 should be able to remain in the target area for several hours ).
The maiden flight the engine on 30 July 1984. 1991, the AGM -136 program was canceled, so also the F121 is not been further developed. Only in 2000, some prototypes were used again in the " Naval Air Warfare Center " of the " Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake " for fuel testing.
