Willis J. Gertsch

Willis John Gertsch (* 1906, † 1998) was an American Arachnologe. He described many spiders ( more than 760 species), and scorpions, including such well-known species such as the brown recluse spider ( Loxosceles reclusa ). In particular, he has a lot of Loxosceles species ( Sicariidae ) described and devoted himself to the wolf spiders ( Lycosidae ). His research on a variety of spider families tributed to the present classification of spiders. In the very long list of his publications is probably his most important work American Spiders (1949 and 1979).
