Geographical location

Willmenrod lies in the valley of the Elbbachs between the 475 m high Watzenhahn and the current hill in the Westerwald.

Geology

The landscape is dominated by basalt and clay deposits. Immediately after the war basalt was dismantled and broken on the ground, inter alia, grit and gravel in Willmenrod. 120 hectares of the municipal area is forest.

History

Willmenrod was first mentioned in 1212 as Wernbolderode. Since 1712 it has its present name.

Willmenrod belonged to the early 19th century to the reign Westerburg and came in 1806 in the wake of the formation of the Confederation of the Rhine under Napoleon the Grand Duchy of Berg. 1813 came Willmenrod temporarily to the House of Orange -Nassau and as a result the Congress of Vienna in 1815 to the Duchy of Nassau. Under the management of the Nassau community Willmenrod belonged to the caste domination Leiningen- Westerburg in the Official Rennerod. In 1858 lived in Willmenrod 118 families and 477 inhabitants. 1866 was the Duchy of Nassau, and thus Willmenrod the Kingdom of Prussia.

In 1805, almost entirely Willmenrod is like a major fire. By then type to cover the roofs with straw and the close construction of the houses was such a disaster almost inevitable. Due to its location on Elbbach and the existing strong slope here, it was possible to operate five mills in the town.
