Willy Breinholst

Willy Breinholst (* June 27, 1918 in Grønholt, Fredensborg municipality, † 25 September 2009) was a Danish writer who is mainly known for his humorous works.

Breinholst is mainly known for his books for young parents who are each written from the perspective of an infant, small child or school. It served him in his own words his two grandsons as a model.

Overall, his 165 works have been published in more than 100 countries and sold over 10 million copies. He is so far the only author whose books were more than 450 weeks on the German bestseller list. On the bestsellers list of the mirror stood within a week the same five titles by him, which was included in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Several of his books was filmed in the 1960s in Denmark, including Mig og min lillebror above Bølle (1969).

Awards

For his books Breinholst received various awards, including Luebbe the Honorary Award for more than 4 million books sold, the Carl Möller- price, the Bulgarian Hitar -Peter Medal and the Icelandic Heimaey medal.
