Win Aung

Win Aung ( burmese ) ( born February 28, 1944 in Dawei ( Tavoy now ), Myanmar, † November 4, 2009 in Yangon ) was a Burmese politician. November 14, 1998 to September 18, 2004 Foreign Minister Win Aung was the military regime in Rangoon.

Win Aung was until his dismissal in one of the few civilians in the Burmese military junta, and stood before his active political career over 20 years only in low rank in the military intelligence of the country.

In 1988, he was Ambassador of Burma in the Federal Republic of Germany, 1995 Ambassador to Britain. In 1998 he joined the successor of the hunted out of office Foreign Minister Ohn Gyaw. Under the pseudonym Sithu Nyein Aye, he wrote occasional religious and political articles for the State Journal The New Light of Myanmar.

Win Aung was seen as more moderate and close associate of longtime intelligence chief and acting Prime Minister Khin Nyunt as last. As the latter, he was sent to observer opinion sacrifice of power consolidation efforts of the hardliners leader Generalissimo Than Shwe and General Maung Aye. His successor as Minister of Foreign Affairs official was Major General Nyan Win.

Win Aung was married to Daw San Yon. They have a daughter and two sons, Su Nyein Aye Thaung Su Nyein and.

The fate of Win Aung and his family since the ouster was not known for a long time. According to information from family circles he was arrested in October 2005 in the State of Insein Prison in Rangoon and sentenced there in January 2006 by a special tribunal for abuse of office to seven years imprisonment. Only the imposition of a sentence in itself was confirmed on April 9, 2006 by officials. Win Aung died on the morning of November 4, 2009 at Insein prison of a brain haemorrhage.
