Windhoek Show

The Windhoek Show, with full name Windhoek Industrial and Agricultural Show ( WIAS ), is a consumer fair in the Namibian capital Windhoek. It shall apply with distance as the largest and most traditional fair of the country.

The show is being organized since 1899, every year since 1966 and since 1990 under the umbrella of the Windhoek Show Society. It takes place every year over a weeks between late September and early October at the Windhoek Showgrounds. Today, the fair is regarded as a consumer diameter, the focus remains on agriculture and industry. In addition, here is a small funfair. By 2008 there was a big fireworks display that was, however, then banned and first held back in 2013.

History

The history of the Windhoek Show began in 1899, when 22 exhibitors from Klein Windhoek gathered for an agricultural fair. 1902 2nd Windhoek Agricultural Show was held, which enjoyed increasing popularity. Due to the first world war and financial problems, the third exhibition was held in 1930. In 1934 started the construction of the fairgrounds. However, it took until 1954 until the fair was organized again. Since then, the fair will take place on the premises, since 1966 even annually. This year, more than 27,000 visitors have already been counted in the now aligned to industry and agriculture fair.
