Windows Image Acquisition

Windows Image Acquisition (WIA ) is an image processing interface, which can be compared with TWAIN. WIA is used for data exchange between graphic software and scanners, digital cameras and other digital video equipment. Most new scanners support WIA, even if they are not expressly mentioned in the list provided by Microsoft ( see below) are added.

WIA is currently receiving no support from the. NET Framework. Software developers who want to use the WIA functionality. NET out, so have to resort to direct DLL calls or ActiveX components.
