Windows on the World

Windows on the World was a tower restaurant together with associated bar in the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York. The bar was also advertised with the slogan The Greatest Bar on Earth. Restaurant service covered the floors 106 and 107 during the 106th floor meeting rooms of various sizes were present, the normal restaurant and bar services took place in the 107th floor. The restaurant was located on the north side, allowing the guest to look down while dining on the Manhattan skyline. The restaurant was not nearly one of the most expensive in New York, but raised with corresponding prices. For men, there was a jacket - duty, which was consistently adhered to - even those who had reserved but appeared without a jacket, was referred to the Bar.

The bar stretched along the window front on the south side of the World Trade Center and one on the corner over a portion of the east side. The bar was directed though rather to the upscale crowd, but had average prices and no "face control " at the entrance. The most popular has always been the Wednesday Happy Hour with free admission.

From the bar one could on the floor to ceiling window views over the southern tip of Manhattan, where the Hudson and East River flow together, enjoy. In addition, we had a view of the Statue of Liberty, Liberty State Park with Ellis Iceland and Staten Iceland with the Verrazano Narrows Bridge.

On September 11, 2001, there were already some guests in the rooms of Windows on the World, because there in the morning like rooms of companies, who resided on the World Trade Center, were also hired for meetings, presentations and the like. No one who was staying in those rooms at the time of the stop, has survived. However, there are records of numerous phone calls from trapped people there that are a testimony to the personal tragedies that were generated by the stop.
