Windwatt

A wind watts is that part of the littoral, which falls temporarily dry due to wind action.

Dissemination

Wind cotton can be observed especially in the Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park on the Baltic Sea in Germany.

Formation

Unlike in the Wadden Sea the North Sea do not determine high and low tide events in the shallow water areas of the National Park. In strong winds, the water is forced out of the bay but also in the Baltic Sea, so some very flat areas fall dry. This water then flows back only when the wind turns again.

Habitat

Wind wadding provide great food supply for the passing in autumn migratory birds. For the cranes crossing the Vorpommern Lagoon Area on their train, these are wind cotton during the migration period one of the main beds in Western Europe.
