Winged infusion set

The butterfly needle ( commonly known as Butterfly ) is a special form of the cannula. It is used for blood collection, but can also be used for short-term intravenous administration of medication or fluid therapy.

It consists of a generally very fine needle, which is provided with two wings and a hose. It has the advantage, therefore mostly used by movements of the Luer -Lock, for example, when changing from blood collection tubes, not mitzubewegen and is in very small, fragile veins. The application is less painful and veins gentler than thicker needles.

Overview and comparison chart for the color codes, dimensions and sizes of cannulas

* The DIN / ISO regulations arrange the size constraints in gauge to the outside diameter and the color. So once no measure in gauge is specified, the corresponding data in the row are not taken from the DIN / ISO standard, they are included only for clarity.
