Wings of Tatev
The ropeway to Tatev (also Wings of Tatev - Tatev wings of called ) facilitates access to the Tatev Monastery in southeastern Armenia.
Description
The cable car connects the south of Goris in Syunik Region on 1546 m above sea level, the village Halidsor two hilltops and 2,7 km wide and 500 m deep gorge Worotan away and the nearby 1537 m above sea level Monastery Tatev village. At its lowest point, the cable car floats still 321 feet above the gorge. The ride on the 5.75 km long cable car takes about 11 minutes and saves the visitors a more than 30 -minute ride on a 14.5 km long, narrow and winding road through the Worotan Gorge.
The ropeway to Tatev, with its sloping length of 5750 m significantly longer than the 1999 opened Sandia Peak Tramway in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA, which was previously with 4467 m the longest, in a section running with full suspension rope aerial tramway in the world. The longest passenger ropeway is unchanged, the 13 km long cableway Norsjö, a gondola, which in 1989 emerged from the Section IV a former 96 km long ropeway.
The cable car was opened on October 16, 2010. It was informed that the inhabitants of Tatev and Halidsor and the surrounding villages may ride for free once per day, while the ticket Else $ 8 or € 6 costs. Technical
The aerial tramway was built by Doppelmayr / Garaventa and equipped with two Kronos cabins of CWA for 25 people plus cabin companion. The cars run on two supporting cables of 40 mm diameter and are moved by a rotating cord with 27 mm diameter. The cabins have a maximum speed of 10 m / s (36 km / h), the capacity is 120 people per hour. The four supporting cables each have a length of about 6 km, the pull rope is slightly more than 11 500 meters long. The funicular has three steel lattice supports. The station in Tatev is a comparatively inconspicuous, open concrete and steel structure.
